Mojocode Recommendations Policy sticky icon

From time-to-time I recommend products or services. My intent is to only recommend products from companies whose products I purchase and actually use. Any opinions expressed in the recommendation are my own.

A recommendation differs from a review as a review is a discussion of my experience with a product or service (good or bad) and a recommendation is an outright plug for a product or service that I like.

Note: sometimes I receive a referral fee when people buy something on the sponsor's site, after following my links. The referral fee I receive does not affect the price of the product and is paid by the sponsor. I don't get credit for click-throughs on sponsor links, only for purchases.

Recommended: AVG Antivirus is on Sale!

25% off 1 year subscription to AVG Anti-Virus - Now $25.99.

If you prefer a full suite, you can get 25% off 1 year subscription to AVG Internet Security - Now $39.95.

Recommended: Carbonite Unlimited Online Backup

I take my computer backups pretty seriously. While I've backed up religiously for as long as I've been in the IT industry, about 5 years ago I got caught with my backups down.

My trusty laptop's disk, without any warning at all, completely died. I mean dead-as-a-doornail. I was quoted $500 to recover it, but I felt my weekly data backups and email routines were enough, so I started the recovery process.

Protect your files with Carbonite Online Backup.

Recommended: Go Daddy for SSL, Domains, Hosting

If you've read my postings before, you know I like Network Solutions for domain management and Slicehost.com for virtual private server hosting.

I really like Network Solutions because they provide ironclad domain management (their security monitoring saved my bacon when one of my domains was being hijacked after my former VPS hosting service helped (through incompetence) a hacker get enough access to hack my Network Solutions password). I manage about 40 domains through my account there and really appreciate their services.

As far as running a VPS, I really love www.slicehost.com for developer-focused VPS hosting. They have a really beautiful hosting environment, a fantastic feature set, and a super competitive pricing model.

However, when I want to get "down and dirty" domain name hosting, high value/low cost SSL certificates, or lowest cost site hosting, I usually go to godaddy.com.

Here's why...

Recommended: Acronis 'Backup & Recovery' is Awesome!

I highly recommend Acronis products, especially the backup and recovery products. Using these products, you can backup your entire system to a backup image file and, if you every need to restore anything, you can restore individual files OR re-image your entire system.

You can do complete backups or incremental backups so that you can restore from selected points in time. If you don't need the complexity associated with products like Norton Ghost, you can use Acronis to image a base system onto multiple systems (if you follow all licensing requirements of all associated software).

Acronis True Image 2009 Home

Acronis products are great products, easy to install, and compatible with most current hardware (you can boot from different media and restore from USB connected drives, network drives, etc.). Acronis Home is an especially good deal at $49.

Some of Acronis' great products include:

Recommended: AVG Antivirus

Whether for individuals, small businesses, or non-profits, I recommend AVG antivirus software.

AVG Internet Security - Tough on threats.

If you have a network of workstations, servers, and laptops, AVG antivirus network edition comes with (as in included for free) an admin control panel that will track the status of all of the AVG installations on your network. It can act as a central downloader which provides updates to your local systems and it also makes sure your systems are up-to-date. You can also use the console to "push" the installation of AVG out to your networked systems.

Other things I like about AVG antivirus:

Recommended: Radmin 3.3: Best Remote Support Solution

My favorite remote support solution is radmin. Version 3, which took forever to come out, solved most all of the issues I had with the 2.x versions of the product.

RADMIN: Fast, Secure, Affordable. Free Trial!

Here's what you get with Radmin3.3...
